REGIONAL UPDATE

The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida (APABA) successfully hosted the 2007 NAPABA Southeast Regional Conference at Miami Beach on April 27-28, 2007. The well attended event brought together NAPABA members from across the country. Judge Denny Chin of the Southern District of New York was the dinner keynote speaker, and he spoke eloquently about his family’s journey to America and of his own journey to the bench. Florida Bar President Francisco Angones was the lunch keynote speaker and he spoke about embracing diversity and of his love of Miami’s diverse culture.

People in the News

Jay Kim and Alice Sum are members of the Broward County Diversity Board which was created by Broward County’s chief judge in order to address issues of diversity and sensitivity to minorities by members of the judiciary.

Hung V. Nguyen is a member of the Asian American Advisory Board (AAAB) of Miami-Dade County. The AAAB advises county officials on matters concerning the Asian American community.

Recent Events

APABA held a social mixer at the Globe Cafe on July 26, 2007. The event was well attended by members, judges, law students, and friends of APABA.  This event was also featured in Daily Business Review's "After Hour."
